The Sun was sold to the Embarcadero Publishing Co. in August of 2004 by its long time publisher, Steve McNamara. Prior to purchasing the Sun in 1966 from its founders, Merrill and Joann Grohman, McNamara was the Sunday Editor of the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle. His goal was to transform the weekly into a high quality magazine-style, locally-focused paper similar to the Village Voice in New York City, with an emphasis on good writing and analytical reporting. The Sun has chronicled the life and politics of the area for more than 40 years and has been a consistent award-winning newspaper known for its quality writing, environmental advocacy and commitment to journalistic independence and building a strong relationship with the community it serves. A bible for Marin arts and entertainment with its timely reviews and Marin's most complete events calendar, the Pacific Sun is famed for spotting trends and profiling fascinating Marin residents. More than 80,000 residents find the Pacific Sun provides stimulating information about life in Marin that they can't find anywhere else. Since April of 2005, the Pacific Sun has been mailed to most single family homes in Central and Southern Marin county communnities of Mill Valley, Corte Madera, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Larkspur, San Anselmo and parts of San Rafael. Additional newspapers are delivered to more than 300 high traffic areas. This targeted circulation gives advertisers the power of direct mail without the high price tag usually associated with home delivery. No other newspaper in the Marin marketplace can deliver the saturation the Pacific Sun does, reaching saturation levels as high as 90% in some of the communities. |
